Capel St Andrew - Ten people arrested after UME in Rendlesham forest

Ten people have been arrested by police following an unlicensed music event in Capel St Andrew.

Police were called just after midnight in the early hours of Sunday 26 July, to reports of a gathering of approximately 50 people in an area of Rendlesham forest, Capel St Andrew.

Officers attended the incident and discovered approximately 300 people now at scene along with sound equipment and music being played.

Police vehicles were used to close some entrances to the site to prevent more vehicles from entering, and officers monitored the event throughout the day.

The unlicensed music event has now been shut down and a significant amount of equipment including music decks and speakers seized from the site. Two vans used to transport the equipment were also seized.

All ten people have been taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

T/DCC Alice Scott said: “Suffolk Constabulary takes seriously criminality associated with unlicensed music events and we take robust steps to close them down and pursue those responsible for organising them.

“We know that these events can cause a great deal of disruption to residents due to excessive noise levels, traffic and anti-social behaviour, alongside damage natural habitats and a risk of fire.

“Police would also like to thank partner agencies for their support and the local community for being vigilant as this enables us to intervene and safely ensure that the event comes to an end.”
